Fancy Rat FAQs

How should I choose my rats?

Generally it is a good idea to let the rat choose you. In other words, once you have decided on a group of rats to choose from, put your hand in the cage and choose those that are the friendliest. If you are buying from someone who socializes their rats well, this may not work as well because, in that case, they will all beg to be held. You should make sure that any rats you choose look healthy and dont have any signs of mites (small scabs, especially near face and neck) and who are not sneezing (one of the first signs of myco). Plan to spend at least 30 minutes with the rats you have chosen before you buy them. This should give you enough time to determine if they are healthy.
