Specific Ailments

Note: Most diseases are species specific.  This means that we cannot get them from or give them to our rats. A couple of exceptions are streptococcus pneumoniae, which can be fatal in 2 to 3 days if not treated, and ringworm, which can be transmitted back and forth between humans and animals and is treated the same for both. Also, rats are terminal vectors for rabies. It ends with them, so they cannot pass it on.
